29/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – What impact is climate change having on European security and defence? This is the question that representatives of EU Member States, European institutions, armed forces, industry and the research community sought to answer on Tuesday 26 May during a round table organised by the European Commission and the European External Action Service. The event highlighted the inadequate institutional translation of scientific knowledge and lack of political recognition regarding the risks linked to climate change. More specifically, these factors “are still not systematically integrated into defence procurement, capability planning, budgetary processes and national risk assessments”, the Commission indicates. These discussions are intended to feed into the integrated framework for climate resilience, scheduled for completion by the end of 2026. (ND)
