29/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – A delegation of five MEPs, led by the Vice-Chair of the European Parliament’s Subcommittee on Security and Defence, Riho Terras (EPP, Estonian), welcomed, during a visit to Ottawa, the deepening of cooperation between the EU and Canada in the areas of security and defence and support for Ukraine. “Canada’s reliability and predictability are all the more appreciated at a time marked by global geopolitical upheaval”, Mr Terras stressed in a statement. Discussions focused, among other things, on defence industrial cooperation, with the MEPs claiming that the EU and Canada should seize all opportunities for joint procurement of weapons by making use of all available financial tools. The delegation also discussed Canada’s military presence in the EU, the Arctic, the prevention of hybrid attacks and the supply of critical raw materials essential to the defence industry. (CG)
