29/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 28 May, the European Commission and Europa Nostra celebrated the winners of the European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards 2026 during a ceremony held in Nicosia (Cyprus). Thirty projects and initiatives were recognised for their contribution to preserving and promoting European cultural heritage. Five Grand Prix were awarded to the Polirone Monastic Complex (Italy), the ‘Cypriot Fiddler’ project (Cyprus), an Irish initiative to improve the energy performance of heritage properties, the Maltese organisation Din l-Art Ħelwa and, posthumously, the Ukrainian Maryna Hrytsenko. The Public Choice Award went to the restoration project for Bánffy Castle in Răscruci, Romania. Each winner of a Grand Prix and of the Public Choice Award will receive €10,000.
