27/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 27 May, six organisations representing Europe’s rail, intermodal, leasing, construction and rail freight sectors welcomed the Czech initiative on rail freight. In a letter addressed to the European Commissioner for Transport, Apóstolos Tzitzikóstas, Prague called for the opening of a policy debate at EU level in order to propose concrete measures to support this strategic but struggling sector. This initiative also received the support of Austria, Belgium and Slovakia. In a joint statement, the organisations call on the transport ministers of the EU27 to support the Czech approach at the ‘Transport’ Council meeting scheduled for 8 June in Luxembourg, drawing in particular on the conclusions of the European Court of Auditors in its 2023 report on intermodal freight transport.
