27/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – US Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg expressed deep concern following press reports in Handelsblatt stating that “new fines are being prepared” by the European Commission against Google for favouring its own services in search results and according to which a decision under the Digital Markets Act (DMA) could be made before summer and lead to a fine of several hundred million euros. “Targeting American companies with punitive measures would be a serious mistake, and harmful to private investment and economic growth in Europe. We will follow this matter very closely”, Mr Helberg said on social media on Wednesday 27 May. “The decision is on the 13th floor”, a European source told Agence Europe, in a reference to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
