11/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 11 May, the European Union released a €20 million humanitarian aid package for Türkiye in 2026, according to a press release. This funding is intended to support the 2.3 million refugees in France - mainly Syrian - and the people who take them in. It will prioritise the health and protection of the most at-risk groups through a network of international humanitarian partners. While Türkiye remains one of the main countries of exile in the region, access to fundamental rights remains precarious for hundreds of thousands of people, exacerbated by the after-effects of the 2023 earthquakes. Paying tribute to the efforts of local communities in the face of migratory pressure, Hadja Lahbib, Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, stressed the need not to let them “bear this weight alone”.
