EU and Amman strengthen their strategic partnership with financing agreements worth €135 million

On Thursday 7 March, the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, signed financing agreements worth €135 million with Jordan.

According to the Commission, €30 million of these funds will be used to boost education, young people’s skills and long-term resilience, with an emphasis on developing human capital. They will also promote greater inclusion of women, young people and people with disabilities in Jordan’s political and economic life.

€25 million will strengthen integrated border management and internal security, supporting the joint fight against cross-border threats and consolidating internal and regional stability.

Jordan’s efforts to assist Syrian refugees and host communities in the country will be supported with €80 million. Ms Šuica also announced that the EU was preparing a €160 million package of special measures for 2026-2027, designed to support refugees and host communities by guaranteeing access to essential services - health and education.

Finally, €12.3 million will be devoted to expanding the data processing capacity of the Aqaba digital hub, thanks to a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, guaranteed by the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus.

The Commissioner also announced that the EU was finalising discussions on €110 million in multi-sector budget support, which “will help to improve the business climate, attract investment and better match the skills of the population with the needs of the labour market”. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
