07/05/2026 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission has responded to the Trump administration’s criticism of the future European package on tech sovereignty, due to be presented on Wednesday 27 May. “The Commission is indeed working on a future package on tech sovereignty. What is the issue? Europe needs to get its act together and take action in the strategic sectors that are essential for our future. It’s not about the United States, it’s about Europe”, said spokesman Thomas Regnier on Thursday 7 May. The US ambassador to the EU, Andrew Puzder, said on social networks: “The EU-US trade framework requires eliminating non-tariff barriers to trade. Protectionist measures in upcoming EU tech sovereignty laws risk undermining our partnership. The path forward is deregulation and collaboration on AI and chips”. (APH)
