During a plenary session of the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) on Thursday 7 May, regions and cities called for a greater role in the next ‘Connecting Europe Facility’ (CEF) for the period 2028-2034, to ensure that infrastructure investment is tailored to the needs of each territory.
Committee members also stressed that increased investment in military mobility should bring tangible benefits for both regional connectivity and citizens.
“The substantial increase in the CEF budget [...] will help to complete the TEN-T networks and strengthen our resilience through dual-use infrastructure. By taking account of specific territorial characteristics and involving the regions and cities, we can ensure the successful implementation of the programme on the ground, thereby promoting a more connected and more competitive Europe”, commented Juraj Droba (ECR, Slovak), the opinion’s rapporteur, in a press release.
