The European Commission has engaged with the American artificial intelligence company Anthropic, whose latest models, such as Mythos, are raising security concerns because of their ability to detect critical vulnerabilities and compromise complex systems.
“The Commission representatives met with Anthropic and were briefed on technical details around cyber capabilities and risk of this model’s preview”, said European Commissioner for Economy, Valdis Dombrovskis, following the Eurogroup meeting on the evening of Monday 4 May.
“We are currently assessing possible implications in light of EU policies and legislation”, Mr Dombrovskis went on to say, noting that discussions with the American company also focused on the possibility of European companies, particularly those in the banking sector, gaining access to ‘cyber-resilience’ tests.
On Monday, the Spanish Minister of the Economy, Carlos Cuerpo, called for a “European response” that would provide access to these powerful AI technologies, while ensuring adequate security (see EUROPE 13861/3). (Original version in French by Bernard Denuit)
