31/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 30 March, the Council of the European Union formally adopted the targeted amendment to the regulation on CO2 emission standards for new heavy-duty vehicles. Already approved by the Member States’ representatives to the Council of the European Union (Coreper) (see EUROPE 13812/11) and by the European Parliament (see EUROPE 13827/17), this amendment offers manufacturers additional flexibility, allowing them to accumulate more emission credits before 2030, which can then be used to comply with the targets in subsequent years. The regulation will now be published in the Official Journal of the EU and will come into force twenty days later. The new rules for calculating emission credits will then become directly applicable throughout the EU. The substantial rules on CO2 emission standards for heavy-duty vehicles will have to be revised in 2027. Read the amended regulation: https://aeur.eu/f/lek (AD)
