Some fifty MEPs call for Russia’s Daria Boyarskaya to be relieved of her duties as election observer for Hungarian parliamentary elections

On Monday 30 March, 56 MEPs from all political groups in the European Parliament, with the exception of the PfE and ECR groups, sent a letter to the permanent and acting Presidents for 2026 of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Pere Joan Pons Sampietro and Ignazio Cassis, expressing their “serious concerns regarding the participation of Ms Daria Boyarskaya in the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s election observation mission to Hungary for the parliamentary elections scheduled for 12 April 2026”.

Ms Boyarskaya’s “career raises serious questions about her suitability to play a central role in this international election observation mission. In the past, she has worked as a personal interpreter for Russian President Vladimir Putin”.

These concerns are exacerbated by the current context in Hungary, they add, particularly with regard to a potential Russian influence operation targeting the forthcoming parliamentary elections. “In this context, the presence of a person with Ms Boyarskaya’s profile in a central organisational position within the OSCE PA mission is deeply troubling”, say the authors, who recommend that Ms Boyarskaya be relieved of her duties with immediate effect.
