EU calls for “in-depth investigation” to shed light on fatal attacks on UNIFIL peacekeepers

31/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 31 March, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS), Anouar El Anouni, condemned “the attacks that have caused the death of members of UNIFIL and wounded others” from the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, as well as “the attacks that have targeted the French contingent in recent days”. “We call for an in-depth investigation to shed light on these serious attacks”, which “constitute a grave violation of international law” and “must cease immediately”, he added. Following these attacks on UNIFIL peacekeepers, which have not been officially attributed, France called for an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday. (MB)
