30/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 30 March, the European Commission released almost €11 million to strengthen humanitarian aid and disaster preparedness in East Asia in 2026. The main component, worth €8.7 million, is devoted to climate resilience and warning systems, with €7 million earmarked for the countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), Sri Lanka and Nepal. A further €2 million has also been allocated to the Philippines to help victims of conflict and cyclones. This announcement comes as the Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, is due to travel to Japan this week to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Fukushima disaster. “As Europe puts its Preparedness Strategy into action, Japan’s experience can help us build stronger, more resilient societies”, she said.
