13/03/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 13 March, the ambassadors of the Member States to the European Union unanimously approved a request from the European Parliament for a targeted amendment to the European Union's Electoral Law to allow a pregnant MEP to entrust her vote to another MEP (see EUROPE 13751/8). This provision will apply for a maximum period of three months before the expected date of birth of the child and for a maximum period of six months after its birth. The legislative revision will be ratified without debate at the ‘General Affairs’ Council on Tuesday 17 March. It still has to be approved by more than half the MEPs. They will also have to define the detailed terms of the measure in the European Parliament’s rules of procedure. See the legislative text amending the EU Electoral Law: https://aeur.eu/f/l6u (MB)
