26/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 26 February, the European ministers responsible for competitiveness adopted the agreement reached with the European Parliament in November on the draft ‘Count Emissions EU’ regulation (see EUROPE 13747/4). This regulation established a common methodological framework enabling companies in the transport sector to calculate their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. While the use of this accounting system is not mandatory, the methodology allows companies to generate comparable data for reporting, contractual or marketing purposes. Under the regulation, transport operations will be expressed in CO2 per tonne-kilometre for freight and in CO2 per passenger-kilometre for passenger transport. To improve accuracy, the agreed text prioritises the use of primary data over estimates or default values for GHG emissions. The rules: https://aeur.eu/f/kxg (AD)
