On Thursday 26 February, the European Union and Angola held their seventh ministerial meeting in Brussels, devoted to the “Joint Way Forward”.
Co-chaired by the Angolan Minister for External Relations, Téte António, and the Belgian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Maxime Prévot, the aim of the meeting was to continue the dialogue on peace and security issues.
Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation within multilateral bodies, defence cooperation, particularly in the field of maritime security, and the security situation in the Gulf of Guinea.
The partners also discussed their strategic priorities, the most important of which is the development of the Lobito corridor, a major transport route for critical minerals from sub-Saharan Africa to the European Union (see EUROPE 13728/23, 13750/8).
More broadly, they also explored the prospects for cooperation in the fields of trade and investment.
