In-depth investigation into Danish and Swedish financial support for postal company PostNord Logistics launched

On Friday 13 February, the European Commission opened an in-depth investigation into the Danish and Swedish capital injections of around €15.4 million into PostNord Logistics.

This initiative follows the partial annulment in 2023 by the EU General Court (case T-525/20) of a Commission decision from 2020 rejecting a complaint alleging unlawful aid granted by the PostNord AB group, 60% owned by Sweden and 40% by Denmark, to its subsidiary PostNord Logistics (see EUROPE 12788/5). The General Court found that the Commission’s analysis had been incomplete.

Two and a half years after the judgment, the Commission launched an in-depth investigation to assess: - whether the capital injection is imputable to the Danish and Swedish governments; - whether the operation complies with the market economy operator principle. If the measure constitutes State aid, its compatibility within the internal market will be assessed. (Original version in French by Mathieu Bion)
