João Cravinho promotes greater EU cooperation with countries of Alliance of Sahel States at meeting in Burkina Faso

13/02/26 (Agence Europe) – The EU Special Representative for the Sahel region, João Cravinho, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to a “renewed” approach to its cooperation with the countries of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), at a meeting on Wednesday 11 February with Burkina Faso’s Minister of Economy and Finance, Aboubakar Nacanabo. “This meeting provided an opportunity for a direct and frank exchange between the two personalities, in a context of sovereignty assumed by the AES”, stated the Burkina Faso authorities in a press release. For his part, Mr Cravinho spoke of “very fruitful and open meetings” on the Bluesky network. The need for a “new EU approach” to the Sahel was expressed last November in Brussels by the European foreign ministers (see EUROPE 13756/6).
