03/02/26 (Agence Europe) – In a letter sent to the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, António Costa, on Monday 2 February (https://aeur.eu/f/kk7 ), ahead of the informal European Council meeting on 12 February (see other news), the Czech Prime Minister, Andrej Babiš, recommends a series of measures, including postponing the launch of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS2) “at least until 2030”. In addition, he states that it is necessary to limit “excessive price volatility” of ETS1 and ETS2 emission allowances, “including through the introductions of price caps or price corridors, and by restricting their tradability for financial institutions in order to prevent excessive price increases and the relocation of industry from Europe”. Mr Babiš also emphasises the need to cut red tape, respect technological neutrality and support CO2 capture and storage technologies. (PLD)
