03/02/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday, 2 February, Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib announced on the social network X that the European Commission had released €2 million in emergency aid in order to support relief efforts in Mozambique, which has been hit with severe flooding. At the beginning of January, the region experienced the equivalent of a year’s rainfall in just a few days, which caused the waters to rise, affecting almost 700,000 people, according to the UN World Food Programme. In 2025, the EU had already allocated €17 million to Mozambique, including €5 million dedicated to the victims of the recent cyclones. Parallel to the climate crisis, the European Commission is also maintaining its support for displaced people in Cabo Delgado, a province in the north of the country where repeated attacks by armed jihadist groups have deprived over a million civilians of essential services.
