The first negotiation meeting between the EU Council and European Parliament on the Critical Medicines Act was held on Monday 2 February. The co-legislators expressed their desire to reach a rapid agreement on this issue.
The next ‘trilogue’ of negotiations between the EU institutions is scheduled for 16 March (see EUROPE 13790/19).
The co-legislators and the European Commission stressed the issue’s political importance and the need to strengthen the security of supply and availability of critical medicinal products, while supporting the availability and accessibility of other medicines of common interest.
The institutions’ respective mandates were presented, and the co-legislators identified the main areas of the regulation to be further developed during the upcoming technical discussions: scope and strategic projects, stockpiling, joint procurement, financing and the purchase of EU-produced critical medicinal products.
The co-legislators have delegated to their experts the holding of technical meetings to prepare for the next political trilogues. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
