EU fears renewed instability in Tigray region

02/02/26 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 31 January, the Lead Spokesperson for the European External Action Service expressed the EU’s deep concern at the resurgence of fighting between the Ethiopian federal army and local forces in the Tigray region. These new clashes have raised fears of a resumption of the civil war, which cost the lives of almost 800,000 people between November 2020 and the signing of a ceasefire agreement two years later in Pretoria.
