20/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – The Cypriot Finance Minister, Mákis Keravnós, said on Tuesday 20 January that his European counterparts had agreed to “make rapid progress” in the Council of the European Union on the legislative package aimed at implementing the EU’s €90 billion loan to Ukraine for 2026 and 2027 (see EUROPE 13786/4). The Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU has put the issue on the agenda for the meeting of Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) on Wednesday 21 January. On Tuesday, the European Parliament decided to deal with this dossier under the urgency procedure and, on Wednesday, it is expected to do likewise to apply enhanced cooperation in order to back the ‘Ukraine support loan’ with the EU budget. The aim is to reach a final political agreement at the beginning of March and to make the first payments in April, according to Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner for Economy. (MB)
