14/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – Chinese online retailer Shein will finally appear before the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee (IMCO) on Tuesday 27 January. The chair of the IMCO Committee, Anna Cavazzini (Greens/EFA, German), welcomes this, particularly in light of the recent scandal involving the platform (see EUROPE 13757/12). “Compliance with European legislation is not an option. This also applies to platforms (...) such as Shein, which are flooding the single market with dangerous and illegal products with a business model that systematically breaches European standards,” she said. In the wake of the discovery of child pornography dolls on the platform, the European Parliament called for Shein to be suspended in the EU (see EUROPE 13759/5). An initial debate on the issue was organised by MEPs in early December, in the absence of a representative of the Chinese company (see EUROPE 13762/10). (IS)
