14/01/26 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 14 January, the Conference of Presidents of the political groups (CoP) in the European Parliament decided to place on the agenda of the European Parliament plenary session the motion of censure to bring down the ‘von der Leyen’ Commission tabled by the far-right PfE group (see EUROPE 13784/25). Motivated by the forthcoming signing of the EU/Mercosur agreement, this motion of censure will be debated on Monday 19 January and voted on Thursday 22. It seems to have little chance of success, like the three motions already rejected in 2025 (see EUROPE 13678/1, 13727/1). On Wednesday, the French National Assembly rejected two motions, tabled by the far-right Rassemblement National and radical-left La France insoumise parties aimed at toppling the ‘Lecornu’ government, criticised for its failure to prevent the EU Council from giving the green light to the EU/Mercosur deal (see EUROPE 13786/5).
