14/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 13 January - until 20 April - the European Commission launched a consultation on a regulation for the construction sector for the end of 2026. “The much-needed supply of affordable, energy-efficient housing and the development of infrastructure within the EU could be accelerated if construction service providers could take full advantage of a genuine single market. The restrictive and disparate regulation of construction services is currently holding back this supply”. The problems raised by the Commission include the following: - the absence or limited mutual recognition of national authorisations, certificates and proof of competence in areas such as health and safety at work, energy efficiency and the environment; - difficulties accessing national construction site cards; - limited professional mobility due to the large number of regulated professions.
