14/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission appointed Leontina Sandu Director for Digital Enablers and Innovation at the Directorate-General for Digital Services (DG DIGIT), on Wednesday 14 January, according to a press release. This Directorate-General is responsible for the digital services that support other Commission departments and EU institutions in their daily work, and helps public administrations in Member States. The starting date will be announced at a later date. Ms Sandu, a Romanian national, is currently Head of Unit for “Interoperability and Digital Government” at DG DIGIT. Previously, she was Head of Unit for Digital Business Solutions within the same Directorate-General, where she introduced artificial intelligence tools to increase investigation capacity and reduce data analysis duration, the press release adds.
