14/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 14 January, the European Commission opened - until 11 February - a call for evidence on the future ‘European Social Security Pass’ (ESSPASS). Planned as part of the ‘Fair Mobility’ package at the end of 2026, this tool will “simplify how EU citizens moving to or working in other EU countries interact with relevant authorities or service providers in the context of social security”, explains the Commission. It will “cut paperwork and the risk of errors and fraud”. Despite initiatives to improve information exchange and online access to cross-border social security services, such as the Electronic Exchange of Social Security Information (EESSI) and the Single Digital Gateway (SDG) Regulation, “proving social security rights across borders still involves time-consuming processes”. These problems are “acute in border regions”, explains the Commission. Further information: https://aeur.eu/f/k8k (SP)
