06/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – On Monday, 5 January, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the forthcoming ‘Fair Labour Mobility Package’, which is open until 2 February. Scheduled for the third quarter of 2026, this ‘Fair Mobility’ package is expected to make it possible to modernise, simplify, and digitalise social security coordination and labour mobility; facilitate the recognition and validation of qualifications and skills so as to support free movement; improve the enforcement of legislation by strengthening the European Labour Authority; provide legal clarification on mobility law within the EU; strengthen the EU’s strategic autonomy; and mitigate skills and labour shortages. At this stage, the European Commission is planning three initiatives: a proposal for a European Social Security Pass, a stronger mandate for the European Labour Authority, and a skills portability initiative.
