Cyprus Presidency’s priorities centre on tax simplification and Customs Union reform

During its Presidency of the Council of the EU—which will come to a close at the end of June (see EUROPE B13778A3)—Cyprus will emphasise “promoting the EU tax decluttering and simplification agenda, as part of the broader efforts to strengthen competitiveness”. It also intends to further the legislative work on the Customs Union.

In fact, the European Commission announced that in spring 2026, it would present an ‘omnibus’ package regarding the simplification of tax legislation...
