06/01/2026 (Agence Europe) – On 19 December, and until 31 January, the European Commission launched a call for evidence on future measures to guarantee the supply of recycled aluminium (‘scrap’) in the EU. In the RESourceEU action plan, presented at the beginning of December (see EUROPE 13765/6), it promised to present, in the second quarter of 2026, a proposal and possibly export restrictions for recycled aluminium. Prices for this product have risen by almost 80% since 2019, so European ‘scrap’ manufacturers are exporting it abroad at high prices. For European industry, using recycled aluminium has become unprofitable. However, the Commission wishes to encourage the use of this recycled aluminium at a reasonable cost, and this could involve export restrictions. See the call for evidence: https://aeur.eu/f/k66 (LM)
