In the third quarter of 2025, seasonally-adjusted GDP rose by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the European Union, compared with the previous quarter, according to an estimate published by the statistical office of the European Union (Eurostat) on Friday 5 December.
Denmark (2.3%) recorded the highest rise in national GDP, followed by Luxembourg and Sweden (both 1.1%). Decreases were seen in Ireland, Finland (-0.3% each) and Romania (-0.2%).
Growth was strong in Spain (0.6%) and France (0.5%). It was flat in Italy (0.1%) and Germany (0.0%).
Employment. Again according to Eurostat, the number of employed persons rose by 0.2% in the euro area and by 0.1% in the EU in the third quarter compared with the previous quarter.
The number of hours worked rose by 0.4% in both the euro area and the EU.
This allows an estimation of labour productivity trends over the period in question. On a per capita basis, it rose by 0.7% in the euro area and by 1.1% in the EU. Based on hours worked, it rose by 0.6% in the euro area and by 0.9% in the EU. (Original version in French by Mathieu Bion)
