Kaja Kallas welcomes one-year extension of mandate for Operation EUFOR Althea

04/11/2025 (Agence Europe)On Monday 3 November in Sarajevo, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s unanimous decision from the end of October to extend the mandate of Operation EUFOR Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina for a further twelve months. “Thirty years after the Dayton Peace Agreement, the European Union will keep doing everything we can to prevent any security vacuum in this country. We will not let history repeat,” she declared. She believes that the presidential elections in Republika Srpska on 23 November represent an “a chance to ease political tension” in the country’s Serbian entity and “restore trust in local authorities”. EU membership remains “the best guarantee of a brighter future” for Bosnia and Herzegovina, she stressed (see other news). (MB)
