20/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 17 October, the Council of the EU extended for one year the restrictive measures put in place by the European Union because of the situation in Niger. These sanctions, which were decided following the military coup of 26 July 2023, will therefore apply until 24 October 2026. The measures involve a freeze on assets and a ban on making funds available to the persons or entities concerned, as well as a ban on travel within the EU. In order to safeguard the delivery of humanitarian aid or activities aimed at meeting basic human needs, a humanitarian exemption to asset freezing measures is included in the EU sanctions regime (see EUROPE 13277/2). The extension was published in the EU’s Official Journal on Monday 20 October. Link to the legal act: https://aeur.eu/f/j1t (BD)
