19,940 people lost their lives in road accidents in the European Union in 2024, which is a 2% decrease compared to 2023, according to a press release from the European Commission on Monday 20 October.
With 45 deaths per million inhabitants, the EU continues to have some of the safest roads in the world. There have been some notable improvements, including a 22% decrease in Lithuania, 19% in Latvia and 13% in Austria.
