20/10/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Trade, Maroš Šefčovič, is due to hold talks on Tuesday 21 October with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Wentao, on the subject of the recent export restrictions imposed by China on rare earth technologies (see EUROPE 13727/26, 13730/16). For his part, the European Commissioner for Industrial Strategy, Stéphane Séjourné, held a meeting on Monday 20 October with representatives of the industries affected by the new measures (automotive, wind power, semi-conductors, space and defence). These players agree on the need for a diplomatic solution rather than strong unilateral measures. They also support the principle of strengthening value chains, particularly within the EU itself. At the meeting, the Commissioner indicated that the EU was preparing initiatives to alleviate supply difficulties - including joint purchasing centres - and trade measures on recycled steel. (LM)
