02/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 1 September, the European Union strongly condemned the arbitrary detention of at least 11 United Nations staff members by the Houthis in Yemen since Sunday, as well as the seizure of UN property and attempts to break into UN premises in Sanaa, “in violation of International Law and the Vienna Conventions, providing for the inviolability of diplomatic premises at all times”. “The EU calls for the immediate release of all detained personnel,” stressed the spokesman for the European External Action Service in a statement. And while the Houthis claimed to have fired a missile towards an Israeli oil tanker in the Red Sea, without hitting it, the spokesman called for respect of the freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and demanded an end to all threats and attacks against commercial vessels.
