02/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – According to a new Eurobarometer survey, 56% of Europeans support the enlargement of the European Union, with the strongest support in Sweden (79%), Denmark (75%) and Lithuania (74%), but only 45% in France and the Czech Republic. Young Europeans are more in favour of membership than their elders, with 67% of 15-24 year-olds in favour. The most widely recognised benefits of enlargement include a stronger EU influence in the world and a larger market for EU businesses (37%), more job opportunities (31%) and greater solidarity between countries (30%). The greatest fears relate to uncontrolled migration (40%), corruption and crime (39%) and the financial cost to European taxpayers (37%).
