02/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Heritage Days opened on Tuesday 2 September, with the theme ‘Architectural heritage: windows on the past, doors to the future’. Launched in 1985 by the Council of Europe and co-organised with the European Union since 1999, these days attract more than 20 million visitors every year and are a joint initiative co-financed by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme. Until November, thousands of monuments and sites in 48 countries will be offering free tours, exhibitions, workshops, performances and digital experiences. In a press release published the day before, the European Commissioner for Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef, stated: “How we protect and value our architectural heritage reflects the kind of Europe we want to pass on to future generations”.
