16/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – In a letter replying to the one sent by the European Commission the previous day (see EUROPE 13681/10), the Slovak Prime Minister, Robert Fico, said on Wednesday 16 July that the commitments described in response to Bratislava’s concerns about the implementation of the REPowerEU ‘roadmap’ for a shift away from Russian fossil fuels remained “too vague”. “In these circumstances, I ask you to use the coming hours and days to continue the dialogue (...), particularly in the interests of a clear interpretation of the commitments that the Commission is assuming at political level”, wrote Mr Fico in his letter, which he shared on X. He has therefore once again called for a postponement of the vote on the adoption of the 18th package of sanctions against Russia (see EUROPE 13681/9), arguing that this can only take place “once the significant risks associated with ‘REPowerEU’” have been eliminated.
