Merchandise trade increased significantly in early 2025 in anticipation of US tariffs

16/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – The volume of world merchandise trade rose by 3.6% compared with the previous quarter, according to figures published by the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Tuesday 15 July. Compared with the first quarter of 2024, this represents an increase of 5.3%. This was due to a spike in imports at the start of the year in anticipation of the US tariffs imposed in April.
