On Thursday 26 June, the twenty-seven Heads of State or Government of the countries of the European Union are expected to reaffirm their commitment to multilateralism and the United Nations system.
“Marking the 80th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter, the European Council reaffirms the European Union’s steadfast commitment to effective multilateralism and to the rules-based international order with the United Nations at its core, as well as its support to the institutions upholding international law, including by effectively protecting international courts and their officials”, reads a draft of the conclusions dated 24 June, a copy of which has been obtained by Agence Europe.
The European Council should also welcome the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4), which will take place in Seville from 30 June to 3 July (see EUROPE 13661/21).
According to the European leaders’ draft language, this conference will be “an important step towards putting in place a renewed global financing framework for sustainable development”.
