Adequacy of UK rules with EU law on protection of personal data extended until end of 2025

24/06/25 (Agence Europe)Following the green light from the Council of the European Union and the European Data Protection Board, the European Commission decided on Tuesday 24 June to extend by six months – until Saturday 27 December – its two decisions (2021/1772 and 2021/1773) recognising the adequacy of the UK’s rules on personal data protection with those in force in the European Union, in force since June 2021 (see EUROPE 12750/8). These decisions allow personal data to be transferred from the EU to the UK. The extension will enable the UK authorities to finalise the ‘Data Bill’, says the European Commission, which will analyse the legislation to ensure that it maintains the same level of protection for personal data. More information on the adequacy decisions adopted by the European Commission in relation to the rules in force in around fifteen third countries can be found here: https://aeur.eu/f/hj9 (MB)
