24/06/2025 (Agence Europe) – The General Affairs Council has approved the recasting of Directive 93/109 setting down detailed arrangements for the exercise of the right to vote and stand as a candidate in European elections by EU citizens who are residing in another Member State, a dossier on which the European Parliament is only consulted (see EUROPE 13661/22). Poland’s State Secretary for European Affairs, Ignacy Niemczycki, has listed the advances that the legislative revision will promote: - “improved access to information” on electoral rights and registration requirements; - the creation of “standardised registration models” to make the process more accessible and understandable; - guarantees to “prevent double voting or the accidental loss of voting rights”.
