24/06/2025 (Agence Europe) – Three years after the discussions began, in 2022, the United Nations agreed to the creation of a new global science and policy panel “to support sound management of chemicals and waste, and to prevent pollution”, on Friday 20 June. This panel will “fill a major gap in the global environmental architecture”. This intergovernmental panel will be hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), which has led the negotiations over the last three years. “This is the first step in delivering meaningful action to address our global waste and pollution crisis and secure a healthier, safer future for all”, said UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen in a statement.
