40 years of Schengen Agreement – Agence Europe’s podcast, Quart d’heurope, analyses central but contested achievement of European integration

13/06/25 (Agence Europe) – Conceived as an area without internal borders based on trust between Member States, the Schengen area is now being put to the test as a result of reintroduced controls, delayed enlargements and uneven coordination. To mark the fortieth anniversary of the agreement (see other news), on Saturday, 14 June, and thanks to the expertise of our journalist Solenn Paulic, as well as that of Jean-Louis De Brouwer, director of the European Affairs programme at the Royal Institute for International Relations – Egmont, and Jérôme Vignon, chairman of the Immigration and Asylum working group and adviser to the Jacques Delors Institute, Quart d'heurope looks back at the history, current issues and future of this European acquis.
