28/05/25 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, said on Wednesday 28 May that she was “optimistic” about the possibility of the Council of the European Union officially starting EU accession negotiations on the issue of fundamental principles and values (Cluster 1) before the end of June, “not only with Ukraine, but also with Moldova”. She estimated that by “September or early October”, the Commission would complete its screening of Ukrainian legislation. Reports on Clusters 1, 2 and 6 have been sent to the EU Council and Ms Kos is hoping for rapid decisions from the Member States. As for Ukraine opening all sets of chapters by the end of the year, this is possible, but “there is still a lot of work to be done”, according to the Commissioner. (MB)
