European ministers want to pursue research and innovation partnership in Mediterranean region

23/05/2025 (Agence Europe)On Friday 23 May, Diana Morant, the Spanish Minister for Science, Innovation and Universities, shared her desire to continue the ‘PRIMA’ partnership for research and innovation (R&I) in the Mediterranean region beyond 2027 (see EUROPE 13646/5). Supported by her Bulgarian, Cypriot, Croatian, Greek, Italian, Luxembourg, Maltese, Portuguese and Slovenian counterparts, she said that ‘PRIMA’ was “an instrument of great diplomatic value”. In particular, she spoke of the role that R&I can play in curbing climate change in a region that is heavily affected by the phenomenon, particularly in terms of water management. The ministers would like to see PRIMA taken into account in the next Multiannual Financial Framework. Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation, replied that the Commission was currently evaluating the performance of this partnership. (AD)
