EU opens anti-dumping investigations into certain Chinese tyres and Vietnamese polyethylene terephthalate

23/05/2025 (Agence Europe)On Thursday, 22 May, the European Commission announced that it had launched an anti-dumping investigation into imports of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) from Vietnam. PET is a plastic that is primarily used in the production of bottles. Last April, the European Commission received a complaint from PET Europe about Vietnamese products potentially being dumped. Based on sufficient evidence, it thus opened an investigation, which it must close within 14 months.

It should be noted that the EU already has an anti-dumping duty on Chinese PET and a countervailing duty on Indian PET.

Chinese tyres. One day prior, on Wednesday, 21 May, the European Commission targeted imports of Chinese tyres for light vehicles and vans with an anti-dumping investigation as well. In 2023, the EU had reinstated both anti-dumping and countervailing duties on Chinese tyres for buses and lorries (see EUROPE 13158/3). (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
